According to a new study by the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine published in PLOS ONE, the sun’s rays in the morning can help you slim down.
The researchers asked the 54 participants, aged 30 on average, to wear a wrist monitor, which would measure their exposure to the sun for seven consecutive days.
At the same time, the participants held a dietary and calorie diary. As it was known, people who woke up early and “sunbathing” in the morning had a lower body mass index, regardless of age, activity or diet.
Why are the morning sun beats so beneficial in slimming? There are two possible reasons: The very early sun exposure helps your internal biological clock to be adjusted properly, which means you sleep more easily, and stable sleep helps your metabolism run better, so you lose weight more easily.
The second reason is that morning light is more intense than in the afternoon, because there is a larger volume of blue light in the early morning rays. And blue light has the best impact on the circadian rhythm. Circadian rhythm is any biological process that presents an endogenous periodic change over a 24-hour period.
The term circadian originates from the Latin word circa, meaning “around” (or “about”) and diem or dies, meaning “day”. Although circadian rhythms are endogenous, they are adapted to the local environment by external factors, more important of which are daylight.
You only need 20-30 minutes of morning light between 8am and 12am to get the light your body needs to work properly.
